Data destruction & ITAD
Data Destruction Certificate
An official document proving that the data on your company’s devices was wiped or destroyed beyond recovery, issued by a recycler licensed by the Waste Management Regulatory Agency. It is what auditors, risk and information security teams ask for after any device is retired.
What is a data destruction certificate?
A data destruction certificate proves that the storage media in your company’s devices (hard drives, SSDs, phone memory and servers) were wiped to a secure standard such as NIST 800-88 or physically destroyed, and that the devices were handed to a licensed recycler. Without it, your company remains liable for any data leak and for breaching Egypt’s Waste Management Law 202 of 2020.
Deleting files or formatting a drive does not erase the data, and freely available tools can recover it. That is why banks, telecom operators and multinationals require a destruction certificate for every disposal and keep it in their compliance files.
Why your company needs it
Waste Management Law compliance
Law 202 of 2020 makes the company responsible for its e-waste until it reaches a licensed recycler. The certificate proves handover and treatment.
Personal data protection
Egypt’s Personal Data Protection Law 151 of 2020 requires companies to protect customer and employee data, including when disposing of devices.
Internal and external audits
Financial and information security auditors ask for documented proof of what happened to every retired device.
ESG reporting
The certificate and final report back sustainability reports with documented data on recycled equipment.
What a destruction certificate should include
| Item | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Issuer name and license | Proves destruction was done by a WMRA-licensed recycler |
| Client company and pickup date | Ties the certificate to a specific job |
| List of devices or storage media | Defines exactly what was destroyed, ideally with serial numbers |
| Destruction method and standard | NIST 800-88 secure wiping or physical destruction |
| Date and place of destruction | Documents the chain of custody |
| Issuer signature and stamp | Makes the certificate a formal, submittable document |
Use this checklist to review any destruction certificate you receive. You can request a sample of the Triple RE certificate before signing.
Secure wiping or physical destruction?
| Secure wiping | Physical destruction | |
|---|---|---|
| How it works | Overwrites all data to the NIST 800-88 standard | Destroys the storage medium itself |
| Best for | Devices that will be reused or resold | Damaged or highly sensitive devices |
| Device still usable? | Yes | No |
| Typical use | Computers and laptops for refurbishment | Bank drives and old servers |

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Triple RE data destruction certificate recognised?
It is issued by Triple RE as a recycler holding WMRA approval no. 3042 for treating electronic and electrical waste, certified to ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001, and companies use it in compliance files and audits.
When will I receive the certificate?
The destruction certificate and final report are issued within 14 days of pickup.
What if I lose the certificate?
Triple RE keeps digital copies of certificates for 7 years; you can request a replacement at any time.
Is formatting a drive enough before selling it?
No. Formatting does not erase the data and it can be recovered. Use NIST 800-88 secure wiping or physical destruction, backed by a destruction certificate.
Can destruction happen at our premises?
Yes. We offer on-site data destruction so storage media never leave your building before they are destroyed; the devices are then taken to our plant for recycling. Service details.
