When you hand old equipment to a recycler you should receive three documents: a data destruction certificate for devices with storage media, a recycling or safe-disposal certificate, and a final report of what was collected and processed. Together they prove compliance with Waste Management Law 202 of 2020 and protect you in audits.
1. Data destruction certificate
Proves drives, SSDs and storage were wiped or destroyed beyond recovery. It should state the issuer and its license, the devices, the method and standard, and the date. Certificate details.
2. Recycling certificate
Proves the waste went to a licensed recycler and was treated safely and lawfully — the document oversight bodies ask for.
3. Final report
A statement of what was collected and processed, used in compliance files and ESG reporting.

How to keep the documents
- Store a PDF in your document management system.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is an invoice enough proof of disposal?
No. An invoice only proves the transaction; the recycling and destruction certificates prove lawful treatment and data destruction.
When do I need a data destruction certificate?
For every device with storage media: computers, laptops, servers, phones and some printers.
What if I lose a certificate?
Ask the recycler for a replacement. Triple RE keeps digital copies for 7 years.
